Related, the Community Council has been doing some things lately to
publicize the fact that contributions that count toward membership (or
involvement in the community) are not strictly technical.

This began with revision 1.1 of the CoC, which the rationale.txt[0] mentions:

"== Goals with revision 1.1 ==

Our primary goal in this version of the Code of Conduct was to remove
what we saw as an overly technical focus."

And on to a recent discussion at UDS about the perceptions of Ubuntu
Membership (and frequent unimportance of launchpad karma points). This
led to changes to the Membership wiki page to put a greater emphasis
on *any* contributions:
