Welcome Selene!

As a programmer and person with interest in contributing with your
technical skills you will find yourself very much welcomed in the
Ubuntu community. Teams like the BugSquad and the packaging team
(MOTU) are always looking for new technical folks! :)

Just to add to this list...

This is a great community-maintained wiki for getting involved stuff:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ContributeToUbuntu

And our website has a nice "Get Involved" page that touches upon a few
of the ways to get involved without getting too overwhelming:

Just a quick note on this one - not all teams are completely open to
everyone. Several of the teams like you to prove that you've actually
committed to working with the team (worked with folks in IRC, been
active on the mailing lists, made direct contributions) before they
will approve your Launchpad membership in their team. It's best to
read through the information about the team prior to simply joining
the launchpad team so you don't break their application rules or feel
bad if you are rejected from the team.

Cheers,
