:-) Welcome, its nice to have you here Jane .... Thanks to you and
Clytie for setting the ball rolling, so my 'me too' follows :-)
I am Vidya from India. In fact my experience has also been in sales
and marketing (set-up a trading firm for pharmaceuticals & chemicals).
As is any other industry this was again a male-dominated environment
but I enjoyed the challenges, travel and hard-work (stress included
;-)) that came along with it.

Being an avid technology fan, I have always followed the developments
in this field keenly & was introduced to Linux by accident. Getting an
old version of RH installed as a dual-boot 2+ years ago was a scary
experience as it involved some tough negotiations with local vendors
(who predictably refuse to provide any support or hardware warranty).
Here the Internet and online lists came in handy. Then Ubuntu came
along and shook things up a little ;-) Since I always wanted to
return something, I volunteered to translate for Sanskrit (an Indian
language) and ended up writing the locale for it which awaits
inclusion in Debian packages.

Now I am involved in the process of setting up the Indian LoCo team.
While my Linux journey was a steep learning curve I enjoyed the
experience & hope UbuntuWomen will balance things eventually for
women.

My positive Ubuntu experience inspires me to learn while contributing
to the community which is the chief motivation for setting up this
space. I would like to see women speak-up here and ask Ubuntu-related
questions. For starters, how about all the 60+ members
introducing(*) themselves and that includes the men too :-)

Hoping to see some cool stuff happening here :-)

ciao,

(*) its not mandatory but it would be nice if you did it ... so we get
to know y'all better !
