Here's to jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm an electrical engineering undergrad in Boston, just turned 20, the first tech geek in 3 generations from a family with a long history of business majors (I totally envy the kids whose parents taught them about computers when they were little). Been a Linux user for about 4 years, discovered Ubuntu through some friends last year and switched then, although I primarily use Windows on my laptop because of the engineering problems we're required to use in class.

Despite a_few years of using and loving Linux, and (a_few - 1) years of my friends asking me for Linux/computer advice, I still consider myself a n00b. I've never been very good at asking questions of people (it makes me feel guilty; I know, I'm working on that), so I've learned everything I know about computers and programming through reading books, googling, and repeatedly breaking my machines. Over the years, my interests in open source have drifted towards usability, language, and education (I'm hearing impaired, Chinese, and a perpetual teaching assistant), although everything else is still shiny and wonderfully distracting. 

Been lurking on lists for a while, and figure it's time to bite the bullet, step out, and actually become part of these communities instead of just watching them. If you see a <mel> or <metamel> on IRC, that's probably me.
