Hi, Ms. Lopez.

I'm new to the mailing list too. I just joined the 'Kubuntu' and
'Ubuntu Women' mailing lists a few days ago, when I was excited about
upgrading to Dapper Drake and I really wanted to get the fun of being in
some kind of community.

I, being a dude, joined the Ubuntu Women list because I feel really
strongly about women in general becoming more active in the computer
industry and in the world of free software.

Plus, it seemed like a female-dominated Linux mailing list would have
nicer people in it, as opposed to the all-male supernerds who populated
the Linux groups I used to lurk in years ago.

If you're new to Linux in general, new to the Debian family of Linuxes,
or just new to Ubuntu, I could try to help you out. I'm still learning,
though. I've been around computers since I was a kid, but I only got
into Linux about two years ago. I got Ubuntu last year and it's only
been about seven months since I started using it for basic computer
stuff instead of Windows 98 (which I don't want to upgrade because...
screw Microsoft).

Here are some helpful links. Stop me if you've heard these before:

The official Linux kernel site:
  http://www.kernel.org

The official Debian site:
  http://www.debian.org

The Kernel Dot Org people's links page:
  http://www.kernel.org/links.html

Convenient information for new Linux users:
  http://www.linuxnewbieguide.org

A guide to basic commands:
  http://www.unixguide.net/linux/linuxshortcuts.shtml

And... that's all I can think of for now.

I feel almost helpful!
