Welcome Lisa,
its true, Ubuntu's very easy to install (and use). If you know programming, you wont have a hard time programming with OSS languages. Try reading a bit on Python, you might like it.

Well I loaded Ubuntu on my laptop at work since my boss is a huge linux person. I had no issues installing it and it actually was the easiest linux install ever. I am familiar with programming but not in linux. However this does not mean I am not interested.
