I agree with both of the above! I went through this for quite a while,
and found nothing in Linux that worked well, or sometimes at all.

Now using an Apple phone app, for some portability, and text appears on
the Mac to use in any way. Some glitches, of course, but pretty good.

Re privacy, the business model behind the software may be a good clue.
