Zoom Video Image question

I found that qv4l2 could manipulate camera parameters with zoom
open and you could see the results right away.
I tend to use uvccapture but cant' remember if that work with
zoom and left last used values.

In addition to the points Karl made (check your room illumination and look for a cover on the lens)
If your computer also has a built-in camera you may need to select the camera you installed instead of the built-in one.
You might also try another app to see if your results are different. Try the Cheese application in Ubuntu. (You may have to install it.) Are the results similar in Cheese?
