Hi,

creating a compressed "clone" on an SSD is fine, but neither an SSD nor
2 USB sticks are reasonable backup media. What you actually get are 3
very unreliable copies. SSDs can lose data relatively quickly if they
are not used regularly. So if for some reason you are only away for six
months and the SSD has not been used in that time, everything may have
been lost. USB sticks are generally unreliable disposable rubbish. It
makes no difference whether you throw the "clones" in the bin once or
twice for "safety".

Nowadays, HDDs in a USB enclosure are probably the most common solution
for backups in private households. I only use CMR drives, I suspect SMR
drives have far too poor performance for backups.

You should always open/list created archives, as even archives created
with exit status 0 can sometimes have flaws.

Regards,
Ralf
