My notes on how I prepare my USB drives for use mention choosing a
flag for your partition when you're partitioning your drive, with
these choices:
* If your computer uses BIOS, choose legacy_boot if it's available
(this will disable msftdata and enable legacy_boot).
* If your computer uses UEFI, choose boot if it's available (this
will disable msftdata and enable boot and esp).
Note that msftdata is chosen for me by default, so I always have to
choose the correct flag if I want to boot from the drive.
You're welcome to my notes on how I prepare my USB sticks for use if
you'd like them, but I can't guarantee that they'll work for you -
just that they have worked for me in the past and that I'm about to
use them again on two new USB sticks that I just got, one of which
will have Kubuntu 24.10 on it. Mine end up being bootable USB sticks
with full write access without having to use sudo (which I realize is
a security issue, but they're for personal use).
