Have attached a txt file of /var/log/apt/history.log

I found a lot of

/usr/bin/unattended-upgrade

AFAICS they didn't have a direct effect on the mate thing, I do see that even
after I took mate-desktop off, a later ubuntu-unity-desktop reinstall had a few
mate files

I used -y on update, just found it seems to do nothing, I have now added

list --upgradable

then I can check what is going to happen

I wont use full-upgrade -y again, it was there because i have a V E R Y slow
internet connection, and it can take update a long time to process, an djust
sitting there to hit "y" (if sudo didn't time-out already) was a PITA, but not
as much as trying to get a working system back ;-<)

off out now back in 3+ hours
