Does somebody use both, current Intel and AMD tower PCs?

Hi,
maybe because it's my first Intel and it seldom does cause an issue,
while all my AMD machines were a PITA.
Nowadays "Celeron" and "Pentium Gold" are the inexpensive CPUs, in the
same low price range, followed by "Pentium Gold" and mainly "Core" in
the middle price range.
Is "Core" the new "Pentium"?
Is "Pentium Gold" kind of an old "Pentium" or kind of a "Celeron"?
The specs of new AMD Ryzen CPUs sound way too good to be true, similar
to advance-fee Nigerian prince emails.
In the Internet I can't find any information that is useful to me.
Is there something known about mobo chipsets and/or vendors or is buying
a mobo still gambling?
Regards,
Ralf
