Hi Ian,
	I should have been more precise to be useful. The printer was an HP 
Envy (!) 6055e inkjet. On the plus side, it was quite pretty, with 
Jobs-inspired design to no useful purpose and lights that cycled through 
an array of colors whenever I tried doing anything with it. What did the 
colors mean? I won't relive this further...
