Have you considered trying another desktop environment; eg, mate?
I run Linux Mint Mate 21.1 (a Ubuntu derivative, based on Ubuntu 22.04,
I believe) with the deprecated TraditionalOK theme (of which, I keep a
copy on my Ventoy drive, for installing the theme on new Linux
installations), and, the pointer icon is as I expect it to be; a
traditional (?) style.
Perhaps, you could get a download live iso, and run it, and find how you
regard the pointer icon representation?
