ISTM that you have been offered several routes here, and if I may say
so, you are putting unreasonable restrictions and requirements in your
own path.
Some general points:
* don't look for methods involving ancient versions of T'bird (or Outlook!)
You can get current versions of T'bird for nothing. Look for current
or recent only.
Throw TB 17 away. It is prehistoric. Forget about it.
* if there is a path, at least try it.
You are complaining about implementation details like "but I only want
a way to import _some_ messages."
That is unreasonable. You asked for ways to do a task; you have been
pointed at ways to do it. But you are refusing them because you want
more control.
Metaphor: "I need to get to that town 500km away!"
The list: "Here is a free car. Go, enjoy."
You: "But I don't like that colour of paint!"
You have been pointed at tools that will import your mail.
So you have 50GB of mail. So what? How much is 50GB of storage in 2023? SEK 5?
I bought a new hard disk for my old iMac last month. 8TB. It was about
SEK 1500 plus postage. That is approximately 165 copies of your
entire email database.
SEK 125 will buy you several hundred GB. 3-4x your whole email store.
Enough for several complete backups.
It's 19 years since I was in Stockholm but that's less than the cost
of a small meal, I think.
My indexes of price are the cost of a beer, and the cost of a curry. I
think a beer in Soldaten Svejk, one of my favourite bars, is SEK 88
now...
https://svejk.se/dryck/
... and a meal SEK 200.
Come on, Bo. So what if you can't selectively import your mail. Does
that matter? Make a backup, do it all, delete the stuff you don't
want.
Then go for a beer -- 1 beer, half a litre -- and you'll spend the
cost of the storage of the mail. Go crazy, have 2 or 3, that will pay
for a 1/2 _terabyte_ hard disk for a few backups!
