Yes, it _does_ check your OS. However, if you're on Windows, it tries
to get you to use the excruciatingly slow "Microsoft media creator"
tool to download it -- I assume by some Microsoft proprietary
knock-off of Bittorrent -- and then assemble an ISO or USB on the fly.

The non-Windows page just lets you download the ready-made ISO and it
even supports download accelerators. I use this one:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multithreaded-download-manager/

So I prefer the Linux page and it works for me. Sorry about that.
