I suggest using a different GUI desktop if this is such a bother
(sounds like it is). I use Xubuntu (Xfce4) and never have this kind of
trouble. When I set the laptop controls to ignore the lid-closed
switch, it does just that.

I also suggest following the discussion list guidelines - bottom post
(like this), and pare down the message to which you are replying down
to the necessary, not repost the whole thread on every reply.
