They publish a Deb repo for the stable version.

TBH I only care about Word. LibreOffice does all I need in
spreadsheets and presentations, and I don't need a database.

Word 97 adopted a new file format, and changed the titlebar and
toolbar look (partly to screw over Corel who had just paid to license
the Office 95 look and feel.)

Word 2000 updated it again and made it look more like Win2K & WinME.
In Word, a table can be embedded inside a cell in another table. This
is a necessary kludge for some formatting issues and causes problems
in Word 97 with Word 2000 files. Also, IIRC Word 2000 added a
highlighter function: literally a yellow tint over selected text.

Office XP adds auto-collapsing of little-used menu options. It's very
annoying but can be disabled. For Word, that is about all.

Office 2003 replaces some complex dialogs with wizards. (Also
annoying). Tweaks the look and feel *again* with toolbars having
textures. Again, no substantial change in Word.

Office 2007 went for the Ribbon UI, which I detest, and adopts a new
file format, based on XML but compressed into Zip files.

Later versions of Office gradually add the ribbon to all the apps.
