locate can't find files?

It came up more normally, but it still can't locate those files. I
happen to know where they are, but I shouldn't have to - that's what
locate (plocate) is for.

I ran ls and redirected the output to a file to see if any odd
characters show up in vi - none such.

Still stumped.
