I came back to say check the  BIOS.
Both update the BIOS and also verify the configuration options of the
BIOS for sound and video.

Also consider loading Windows and making sure the hardware is sound.
i.e. Backup your data  and load windows.

Also consider other linux distributions.  You can test much  "live"
and not alter the current OS.
Make sure to explore for  "non-free" drivers.
If sound is directed to the HDMI lines or to Bluetooth ... silence.
