It's a fair cop, but my sheepish response is: I haven't done it myself yet.

I only have a few Ubuntu boxes with only SSDs in. Only one ever gives
any errors. On that, I run `trim` manually.

sudo fstrim -v /dev/sda1

It usually responds after a short pause (a second or so) with a number
in the tens of gigs trimmed.
