Hi,

apart from expensive pro-sumer or professional audio devices, there are
cheap and non-bulky solutions, such as
https://www.delock.de/produkt/65926/merkmale.html . The sound quality
is more or less equal to a bad Bluetooth codec. I bought one for my
iPad Pro. I own a headphone with terrible Bluetooth audio quality, but
it can be used by cable, too and when connected to a pro-sumer or
professional audio device, the headphone's audio quality is close to
that of professional nameable studio headphones (it's a Chinese
headphone, from a company that provides a lot of low-cost but nearly
high quality products [1]), but when connected to this Realtek ALC4040
thingy it sounds not better as when used by Bluetooth.

However, the audio adapter is not expensive and quasi just an USB C to
audio cable. Heck, when not in measurement mode iPad audio is a PITA
anyway, because it applies EQ settings and who knows what else for
idiots listening to music for idiots. All professional audio apps
running on iOS and iPadOS enable measurement mode to get rid of Apple's
audio "improvements".

Regards,
Ralf

[1] This week I should get 2 new microphone stands. One is a classics
from a nameable company and the other from the same Chinese company as
the headphone. It's a test to check, if my next microphone stands will
be from a nameable company or from China. At least one of my
classics American microphones is made in China anyway, not in the USA
;).
