You should be able to run "last | head" on it and the info would still
be interesting.

So? Disconnect everything except power and see if it keeps rebooting.

Also, if you haven't already, power cycle the whole system - not just a
reboot, actually switch it off and back on.

I am becoming ever more certain that you have a hardware problem. The
time between reboots and whether the desktop is logged in are red
herrings, except that they do point slightly more towards a memory
issue than anything else. You could try simply reseating your RAM.
