I've let it go for more than two hours now without results. The Software
Centre has seldom worked for me but maybe I haven't complained about it
until now just because I wanted to get on with my life and often found
another way to do what I wanted at the time.

Yes, that's the one, thanks. I'll work on this option now. I hope that
IntelliJ is cleanly installed this way, and I hope the installation will
not encounter a problem converting Java to Kotlin as the advertising seems
to falsely implore.
