Dunno about Text-to-Speech, but several years ago I used one of the
command line speech synthesisers and was very pleasantly surprised. Not
quite Fenella Fielding but very passable. It may have been festival but
to my shame I cannot recall. Looking just now there seem to be several
available, and some seem to have front ends. May be worth playing with
those while you wait for your download?

Regards, K.
