Hmmm. So is it booting but not loading the desktop?
If so, Ctrl+Alt+F1 through F6 should get you to a text-mode login.
Another thing you can try: on the GRUB boot menu, press E to edit the
boot command line. Look for the line starting with Linux and add
nomodeset
to the end of it. Then press F10 to boot.
If you can get to a command prompt, you could uninstall the nVidia
drivers and then maybe download and install a newer version. What card
do you have?
