Does installing desktop on Ubuntu Server turn it into the desktop version?

It's actually quite practical to do that, if you ever find yourself in a
situation where your vm needs more space. 
LVM makes increasing diskspace a breeze; just create a new vm-disk and then
in the vm attach it to your current volume group.

YMMV of course, but for us it works very well in our VMware environment.
