After you emails and googling for

I realized that I don't have got the knowledge and seemingly a lot of
people talking about similar issues don't have it either. My guess is
that the problem is the combination of Linux, this card and the
monitor. I don't think it's related to the PCIe bus.

Actually I need a very good monitor for photo and video work, but I shy
away from buying such a monitor for my Linux PC. 1. Krita e.g. is
already unable to get the correct colour profile for my
simple/normal resolution sRGB EIZO [1], resp. I need to chose something
really freakish instead of sRGB. 2. I read about a lot of Linux software
that doesn't work at all with high resolution screens. So I fear that a
monitor that really requires a special colour profile and high
resolution will be a PITA.

[1] It's really a simple sRGB 1920x1080 16:9 monitor, just the DICOM
mode and pixel error class 1 might be outstanding for such an
inexpensive monitor, an EIZO FlexScan EV2450.
