I'm not entirely sure what all your situation is but I setup
a remote camera using "motion" IIRC for motion detection but
there were a lot of kluges in some cases. IIRC I had to write
scripts to kill the process and start it again for some
simple snapshot requests but it does seem to work.
There may be better motion packages.
I run the camera on a laptop connected to a cable
modem using email for commands and images. Its been working
pretty well now for months although when the cable has an
issue lack of a backup connection is disconcerting- I guess
a wireless modem would be a nice.
I'm trying to make a more complete email system but so far
it works ok and provides the images all stroed with
my other email so they can be deleted by date pretty easily.
