Is there really no way to move the snap folder somewhere else?

Greetings,
I hate the fact that snap clutters my home directory with a ~/snap folder, every time I have to run any snap-packaged application.

I checked online, and found this four years old thread which may be summarized as "there is no solution, snap developers do this on purpose, and don't care":
https://askubuntu.com/questions/882562/how-can-i-change-or-hide-the-snap-directory (https://askubuntu.com/questions/882562/how-can-i-change-or-hide-the-snap-directory)
Since that thread is four years old... is this really still the case? Is there really no way to make snap create that folder anywhere else, out of sight? A way that is not Nautilus-only as the .hidden hack mentioned in that page, that is?
TIA,
Marco
