Noticed 18.04 vs 20.04 speed

I have two VM virtually identical one with 18.04 and one with 20.04. Just
console screens no GUI.
18.04 is noticeably faster than 20.04 - I would have thought 20.04 would be
faster or at least the same speed.

Any thoughts - is it just something in my console mode ?
