Openvpn on 20.04

Correct. I followed the steps in that link.
Went to my VPN site, downloaded the client.ovpn file put it in /etc/openvpn.
Added the apt install items.
Did the VPN configure with the +, even rebooted, come back and click the
slider to turn on ( yes seems everything shows correctly in NetworkManager).
 Going back up to Network Manager I get a "Turn Off" option under the VPN -
so it appears to be running.
however - I cannot ping or ssh to my machines on the other end.
No error pops up on screen - just not working.

The ovpn file came directly from the Watchguard appliance I connect into.
