Ok. Please allow me to consider the results of this thread.
In my opinion it's seldom possible to fully replace one by another app,
so it might be better to stay with an app, but to customize it.
Actually the apps Thunderbird and Firefox do not suppress free speech
and individual liberty online, the OP just dislikes the attitude of the
Mozilla project.
The OP already replaced Firefox and decided to stay with Thunderbird.
Firefox provides Google "features" not everybody likes.
To get rid of the Google "features" a user could use Firefox
about:config to disable them or as pointed out by Grizzly on Mon,

Default links/bookmarks against Twitter, Facebook, Amazon and whatsoever
can be removed from Firefox. The default search engine Google can be
changed to any other preferred search engine.
