take a look at "To unsubscribe from ubuntu-users, get a password
reminder, or change your subscription options enter your subscription

Sending an email to the mailing list containing the words "stop e
mails" is like talking to a brick wall. Subscribing to the mailing list
required confirmation, so who ever subscribed you to this mailing list,
has got access to your email account. Broadly speaking, only you or an
ominous person with access to your email account is able to disable
mail delivery or to unsubscribe you, to stop the emails. We can't do
this.

Under exceptional circumstances those who run the list can unsubscribe
you, too. They are also mentioned at the bottom of
https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users .
