Are flatpaks really restricted to it?

Usually flatpaks and snaps suffer from this, the link I provided is
about a snap of claws that can't access spell checking.

Real acceptance would be, if most maintainers would provide reliable
flatpaks and/or snaps, but way to often inexperienced users post to
upstream mailing lists such as Claws and Evolution, because the apps
don't work as expected, they are not well maintained.
