Why the changes to the 18.04 desktop?

Okay, seeing as I am the OP to this thread, I'm going to clear the air and
state that this is what I believe should happen.

It might be better if keyboard shortcuts were actioned only when keys were
released. That way, Alt-Space-C can be accommodated if the Alt key is the
first key pressed.

Perhaps this option can appear as a checkbox when setting a shortcut so
that people may have it either way to suit their predilection.
