[1] Please do not top-post. It is very bad manners. We old-timers are
meant to know how to do this stuff *right*. It is very easy on desktop
Gmail. If you are not using desktop Gmail but the mobile app, then
just leave the messages as unread until you're on a computer.
[2] Please stop posting these rants that really do not contribute to
the discussion. I understand the temptation, I really do, and
sometimes I do it myself, but it's a bad habit and I'm trying to break
it. I see 3 posts in this thread alone.
[3] The desktop experience in Ubuntu in general is *not* broken,
avoidably or otherwise. It's just GNOME 3 that is doing a lot of this
stuff, and that means there is another choice: just don't use GNOME 3
and switch to a desktop which tries to keep functionality that some of
us like and use.
