There were ROM switchers, you removed the original ROM, plugged in a fly lead
and/or small circuit board (depending on which switcher you had) then replaced
the OLD rom "plus" a new one and could switch between, of cause you could
"just" upgrade the rom to the later one, but an awful lot of software only
worked on one or the other so the switcher was the best (if not only) choice
Where the Rom's came I can't swear, but they where over the counter in official
Amiga dealers and advertised in all the Amiga mags
I had an A1500+ that's a A1500 with the extra switched, 2.05 Rom, plus a huge
(at that time) 8Mb Ram add-on, plus a 68030 "Accelerator" board which included
a Scsi interface, that I added a (again huge for the time) 1GB hard drive
When I eventually moved to PC, I had to use a serial cable to copy the Amiga HD
to the PC (no PC Scsi adapters then) it took 57 hours because any faster
required user input
