Why do I get EACCESS?

what version are you using? I'm running 20.04, and there is no usb group.
the group needed is plugdev.  on my system, the normal install/admin user:

fractal% grep peter /etc/group
adm:x:4:syslog,peter
cdrom:x:24:peter
sudo:x:27:peter
dip:x:30:peter
plugdev:x:46:peter
lpadmin:x:120:peter
lxd:x:131:peter
peter:x:1000:
sambashare:x:132:peter
fractal%

I checked on an 18.04 also... same deal.  There is no usb group.
