Folks,

I have a strange problem.

I installed all the packages (printer, FAX, & scanner) for my printer
years ago. i.e. version 10.04. The scanner driver has worked just fine
ever since. Specifically the packages are:

     1. brmfcfaxcups — Brother MFC/FAX fax share function driver

     2. brmfcfaxlpd — Brother MFC-FAX LPD driver

     3. brscan-skey — Brother Linux scanner S-KEY tool

     4. brscan2 — Brother Scanner Driver

     5. mfc240ccupswrapper — Brother CUPS Inkjet Printer Definitions

     6. mfc240clpr — Brother lpr Inkjet Printer Definitions

• May 31 - The computer failed.

• June 15 - Found & purchased a replacement.

             (Difficult due to pandemic.)

• June 22 - After quarantine period, due to pandemic, replaced 500 gig

HD in replacement with 2 × 250 gig HD from failed machine.

Problem:

'Simple Scan,' and others, could not find the scanner.

On investigation I found that 'Synaptic' reported the all 6 packages are
'installed,' all files are present, both in 'Synaptic' as well as on the
HD. However, 'Synaptic' reports packages 4 – 6 as being 0 B.

The printer function is fine, even without the 'Printer Definitions.'

Can anyone tell why 'Synaptic' is reporting 0 B for installed packages?

I assume that is the reason the scanner is not functioning.
