That is some very severe system overload then!
What device is your swap on? How much RAM do you have in the machine?

At least with Ctrl-Alt-F[1-6] you don't really need to wait for a
login prompt. Just a text cursor should be enough

I use the Classic version. I had browser customisations that Firefox
Quantum still can't do. (Merged bookmarks and tab sidebars in one
sidebar; a downloads tab; a smart downloads manager; and some other
things.)

Yes, sure. It's what I use at work. At home I just use it to keep a
local backup of my mailbox; for everything else, I use Gmail's web
interface.
