Colin,

I normally am able to do an ssh from another system to the the one in 
question. I do it frequently and most generally I have a connection 
running. I use it for maintenance purposes on my wife's system. She is 
not technically savy, so I use  the window I have open on her system to 
do so. Avoids having to disturb her stuff and keeps her system up to date.

In this case I tried to do an ssh to my system from another one (my 
laptop). I got a prompt to enter the password for the locked up system, 
entered it and NOTHING happened for over 12 hours...

I noticed your latest response about using other browsers, perhaps that 
is what I should be doing. I will try to put some of the more intensive 
windows on Chrome. What is Waterfox? I will try to do the ctl-alt-F1 and 
ctl-alt-F7 thing next time it happens.

Does Thunderbird sound reasonable as a choice for email? Just curious here..
