Ubuntu 18.04 accessibility, speakup - espeakup setup

Hello,

I'm trying to get accessibility support (console text-to-speech) going
on Ubuntu 18.04. My goal is to have the speakup screen reader going
with espeakup which bridges the connection to Espeak (software
speech). Getting an error with espeakup package and it's not working.

I heard rumors there was a fix for this, but have not found more
information on this.

I know this is disability-specific, does anyone have this going?
