OK. That is the "Windows way" of doing it. It is _not_ recommended for Linux.

The problem is that by just downloading and installing a DEB file,
your copy of Ubuntu doesn't know where it came from so it can't check
for or install updates.

You are much better off if you follow the instructions on the site for
each app telling you how to add the repo, then install the app from
the package manager.

If that sounds too hard, then use Ubuntu Software -- and if the app is
not in there, then don't use it.
