Mate, fcitx and using Asian and Western character sets/keyboards

Is anyone running fcitx and switching between Asian and Western keyboards under Mate? I am switching between European, US and Chinese character sets under Mate, albeit on CentOS 7, and am having a problem retaining keyboard/character set choice when switching between windows, even within one app when moving between different entry windows. Whenever I move between entry windows, or even hitting ENTER within a Chromium window, it switches back to default. Very frustrating as you can imagine... As far as I can tell, the problem may not lie within fcitx but within Mate itself.

Does anyone have success with the above?
