Hi,
both are available for Ubuntu, but only Chromium is provided by
official repositories. With Ubuntu >= Eoan (19.10) even the official
repositories only provide a transitional package for Chromium, for
a migration to a snap thingy.
The differences between Chrome and Chromium:

If those websites should be reputable, they might have good reason to
recommend Chrome. If the websites shouldn't be reputable, you have got
a good reason to stop visiting those sites with what ever web browser.

That's the stuff that flame wars are made of. Somebody else might
recommend one. Btw. Microsoft Edge is based on Chromium and might be
available for Linux soon. I dislike Microsoft, but in my experiences
Edge is the most hitch-free web browser at the moment. I'm testing it
on iPadOS and it seems to be more trouble-free to use, than any browser
for Linux/BSD or any other browser for iPadOS. Just a snapshot in time.
In the past, soon or later all web browsers started to suffer from
unbearable issues. I suspect in the future it will be the same for Edge,
too.
