This 100% definitely works fine.

LO can correctly handle formulae, graphs, named ranges, database
queries, and all of the other Excel functionality that I use. Since
``=sum()'' is about as basic as spreadsheets get, I can confirm this
works perfectly.

Macros are a problem, I believe. I do not use macros in Office any
more and have not done since the early 1990s so I have had no
problems.

However, you should be able to open a spreadsheet containing macros,
edit other parts, save it, and have them work when back in Excel.

That's the web-app version. I was looking at the locally-installable version.
