Scary Ubuntu incident

Hello Ubuntu Technical Support
Ubuntu died on me today while it was doing nothing for me.
The sidebar with all my apps , active and inactive, was still shown but
no "Activities" icon at top left.
None of the apps could do anything and the "Show Apps" grid at bottom
left flashed icons on the screen that went blank.
I tried to shut down but the power light on my PC box kept flashing.
Pressing it reverted to the same display of the sidebar with apps.
Finally I disconnected the mains power and then restarted. That worked
OK so I opened system log files and copied parts to gedit.
I have saved syslog and dpkg.log but they are big and I don't know what
may be relevant.
Please check the strange time stamp sequence in the auth.log below.
Is there anything I need to do to secure my data and system software?
Thanks for your attention. Chas (old retired
user)********************************************Auth.log
