<html dir="ltr"><head></head><body style="text-align:left; direction:ltr;"><div>Hello Ubuntu Technical Support</div><div><br></div><div>Ubuntu died on me today while it was doing nothing for me.</div><div><br></div><div>The sidebar with all my apps , active and inactive, was still shown but no "Activities" icon at top left.</div><div><br></div><div>None of the apps could do anything and the "Show Apps" grid at bottom left flashed icons on the screen that went blank.</div><div><br></div><div>I tried to shut down but the power light on my PC box kept flashing. Pressing it reverted to the same display of the sidebar with apps.</div><div><br></div><div>Finally I disconnected the mains power and then restarted. That worked OK so I opened system log files and copied parts to gedit.</div><div><br></div><div>I have saved syslog and dpkg.log but they are big and I don't know what may be relevant. </div><div><br></div><div>Please check the strange time stamp sequence in the auth.log below.</div><div><br></div><div>Is there anything I need to do to secure my data and system software?</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for your attention.
