It's perfectly safe to shrink the Windows partition from Linux and
I've done it many dozens of times. However, correct preparation is
important to avoid problems, and many people skip this or don't know.
Additionally the correct prep is harder on Win 10 than before.

In brief:

[optional steps]

* [install all Windows updates]
* clean up the C drive _thoroughly_
* fix any errors on the C drive
* [remove any remaining junk using a Linux live medium]
* disable fast boot
* _then_ disable hibernation
* [disable pagefile for max free space if you don't have much]
* defrag
* shrink from Windows
* test
* if still not enough, shrink further with Gparted

Since this is becoming a FAQ, I think it's high time I wrote a blog
post about the process.

I'll be back.
